Sculpture point:Ekebergparken
A talent competition with the ambition to strengthen and showcase new and young artists within the field of three-dimensional art.
About the competition
In Sculpture Point:Ekebergparken, four different artists will be chosen to produce and display their own work in the sculpture park. The sculptures will be placed at the same spot in the Villa garden, and every winner will have their work displayed minimum a year at a time.
The winners are chosen through a total of two nomination rounds, where two artists get chosen per round. The first nomination round was in the summer of 2023. The second nomination round was held June 17th 2026.
The nominations are done by Ekebergparkens Art Council in collaboration with representatives from leading Norwegian art institutions. For each artwork there will be organised specialized mediational programs, seminars and workshops, as a contribution to the conversation on three-dimensional art in public space in Norway.
The project aims to elevate the public conversation regarding what three dimensional art is and can be, both through their different expressions of form and substance, and through the dialogue the artwork will have with the park’s nature as well as its permanent art collection.
The project is developed by Ekebergparken, C. Ludens Ringnes Foundation, Talent Norge, Sparebankstiftelsen DNB and Norsk Billedhoggerforening (Norwegian Sculptors' Society).
Winner 2023: Johanne Hestvold
Johanne Hestvold (b.1988) is a Norwegian artist based in Oslo. She studied art at the Academy of Art in Bergen and has also studied at the Art Academy in Malmö and Kuvataideakamedia in Helsinki. In recent years she has remarked herself as an up-and-coming artist within the three-dimensional field in Norway, and her work has been exhibited at institutions such as the Astrup Fearnley Museum, the National Museum, Bergen Kunsthall, the Vigeland Museum and Kunstnernes Hus. Her practice unites formal and material explorations with a focused view on art's placement in the world.
OR_•GO is a monumental and abstract sculpture in which two large volumes meet and cross each other. Cutting through each other in the asymmetrical shape of an X, an origo. In the tension that appears because of this intersection, a new whole emerges. Oscillating between the monumental and the ambiguous, the sculpture withholds more than it reveals. The recognizable elements of the sculpture are processed and abstracted – almost surrealistically so, leaving room for interpretation.
The sculpture was unveiled the 5th of June 2025 by the Mayor of Oslo during Ekebergparken's season opening.
Winner 2023: Tiril Hasselknippe
Tiril Hasselknippe (b. 1984) is a Norwegian artist best known for her sculptural installations. Her practice often incorporates materials such as steel, fiberglass, concrete, resin, and glass. She holds both a BFA and an MFA from the Malmö Art Academy. Following her studies, she lived and worked as a practicing artist in New York for several years before returning to Norway.
Hasselknippe is recognized for her sculptural and installation-based works, which frequently explore architectural structures and forms. She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally, including at Magenta Plains in New York, Kunsthall Stavanger, NITJA Centre for Contemporary Art, and the Astrup Fearnley Museum.
Tiril Hasselknippe’s commissioned work is expected to be unveiled in 2027.
